Honouring a Long View 2024 --- Jin-Me Yoon

            This photograph explores new possibilities for connecting with the place and history of the area surrounding the National Gallery of Canada. Cinematic imagery of digging, standing, descending and looking, performed by a figure clad in black, traces the artist’s lived experience of the Korean Canadian diaspora. Peering through binoculars, Yoon calls attentions to the geopolitical, historical and personal meanings of local landmarks, activating new site-specific relations that transform as the viewer takes a long view from their own vantage point.
