Built by colour initially, beginning with the strip of sky before moving on to some of the more distinct colours among the shipping. Finished off with the clear patch of water in the lower left of the scene.

An image search reveals an exact match of a picture described as the Royal Docks in the 1960s.

Present are Port Townsville in the foreground and the other grey hull is City of Port Elizabeth. The large black hulled ship is anonymous. The floating crane next to "Port Elizabeth" is named Samson, and a similar (sister?) vessel is partially present on the left-hand edge. The tug is Sun X and one of the barges has CHESTNUT painted prominently on the side.

The loaded barge in the foreground has the lettering "...NER LOCKET (LONDON) LTD Tel:" unfortunately the number is too fuzzy to discern, although the first digit is most likely 9. The tarpaulin on the other barge in the foreground may have "HUMPHERY GREY" stencilled on it.

Although the initial piece count was correct the discovery of a well-concealed imposter part way through meant that the picture would not complete. One missing :-(
