Finally! My bonus! - a photo on Flickriver

            I've been waiting for the ephemeral blooms of this Hibiscus acetosella 'Red Shield' plant and this morning I looked out the window and there they were!  I rushed right out to get shots of them and I'm glad I did -- they were gone when I came home after running errands for several hours.  

I think they lasted such a short time because the sky became overcast.  There are more buds on this plant, though, so I'll get some more blooms.  But I'll have to watch carefully!  They last only a day (or less, as I discovered). 

I love this plant for the beautiful maple-leaf foliage -- that's reason enough to grow it.  These gorgeous blooms are truly a bonus.
