Kestrel,female.

            Only found one pair of Kestrels hunting on my local patch,maybe the food source wasn't enough to support two pairs.Kestrels have been in decline over the recent years,and the once common sight of them hovering over motorway embankments is no longer so common.
No one really knows the exact set of circumstances that have led to this decline,food sources,agricultural changes,road deaths.But I am always pleased to see this iconic bird hovering,keeping its head perfectly still,before dropping onto its unsuspecting prey.
Ps...there are feathers on the talons,so,I assume she has made a recent kill of some small bird,which in itself is quite unusual.
PPs..She was looking the other way...so I squeaked like a mouse..yes....sad I know,but it worked,she turned and looked at me.
