A12 - Fast - Arrow in Flight - a photo on Flickriver

            This photo was a challenge. There were three problems associated with capturing this photo; shutter speed, reaction time, and lens focus. The first attempts were done at 1/2500 second, then 1/5000 second, and finally 1/8000 second to stop the motion of the arrow. Reaction time was solved by moving the archer farther from the target. The focus of the lens was the hard part. This was done using manual focus and picking a point along the arrows flight path where the arrow was typically showing up in the photos. The other focus problem was the shallow depth of field resulting from the high shutter speed. Much more light was needed. The arrow was shot by my grand daughter. She is a highly ranked archer both nationally and internationally.
