"Vienna's Votivkirche is a Roman Catholic church on the Ringstraße in the Alsergrund district and one of the most important neo-Gothic religious buildings in the world. The cathedral, built by the architect Heinrich Ferstel, owes its origins to the failed assassination attempt on the young Emperor Franz Joseph I on 18 February 1853 by the journeyman tailor János Libényi.
