JR Hokkaido D-103 at Kutchan station

            Hokkaido Railway Company KiHa 201 series three car diesel multiple unit waiting at Kutchan station to depart for Sapporo. The headlights shine brightly.
Early on a grey morning under the station's utilitarian shelter. Brown corrugated sheeting supported by white steel beams encloses the left side and covers the island platform, leaving the right side exposed. The platform is illuminated by strip lighting. Icy snow covers the exposed end of the platform and has accumulated on the tracks. The railway line has been cleared through deep snow on the right and an H100 diesel rail car for Oshamambe is just visible behind the columns at the opposite end. The enclosed arch on the right in the background is the Shinkansen station for the high speed line currently under construction.
