JR Hokkaido 1778 at Oshamambe station

            Hokkaido Railway Company vintage diesel rail car KiHa 40 1778 waits at Oshamambe station on track 3 on a bright winter morning.
As seen from the pedestrian overpass, a thick layer of snow covers the ground and the corrugated roof that partially covers the island platform. Passengers disembarking on track 4 from a recently arrived H100 (concealed by the awning) mill on the platform. Construction equipment for the Shinkansen line stands idle in the background. There is a dense cluster of snow covered houses behind and lightly wooded hills in the distance. Overcast sky.
These trains will be retired soon. This was a lucky snap for me, but many train spotters specifically travelled to see this train.
