            Not sure what the plans are for Faifield House , but this is some in yer face scaffolding that now dominate Great Bookham High Street ( just down the street a bit from where I did some of my dry cleaning work back in the day ) . 
Just noticed the hoarding , being turned into apartments !
  Not a stand out history to the house , but one resident about the time of WW2 does stand out to me - Lord Tucker and my grandfather was his chauffeur for some time . 
Taken from a local historical society listing -- 

No. 24, Fairfield House, dates to the early 18th century according to Historic England and bears
characteristic features of the ‘Queen Anne’ style; it is Grade II listed. For much of the second half of the
19th century it was occupied by the Stedman family of general practitioners and surgeons. At the start of the
20th century it was the home of Mary Jane (née Stenning) Arnett, the widow of a cigar merchant Charles
Arnett who appears to have taken over the house in the 1890s. He had died there ‘suddenly’ on
8 December 1899 at age 74. Mary Jane was recorded, with various of her adult children, as living at Fairfield
House in the Electoral Registers up to 1921, in which year she died on 13 December. The next occupants
were the family of Rear-Admiral Willoughby Pudsey-Dawson. Electoral Registers record them at Fairfield
House during 1922-36, although Willoughby, who from the 1870s and into the 1890s had lived in Australia,
had in late December 1935 sailed to Australia on the Orient Line ship Otranto with the intention of settling
there. However, in early September 1936 he died, in Sydney. Fairfield House was still occupied by one or
more of his children in 1937, but by 1939 the property had passed to a Justice of the King's Bench Division
(High Court) Sir Frederick James Tucker KC (later made life peer Baron Tucker of Great Bookham) and
his wife Lady Elizabeth Benedicta Palmer (née Berryman). In 1945 he presided at the trial of the proGerman war-time propagandist William Joyce, ‘Lord Haw Haw’, who was subsequently executed for
treason. He died on 17 November 1975. Since then the house has been used primarily for commercial
rather than residential purposes.
