Grouped by the artist on the same elliptical concrete base, the three sculptures of Edgard de Souza gathered here are presented together for the first time in Inhotim.
The sculptures are part of a series in cast bronze, which includes other pieces and was developed by the artist throughout the decade of 2000.
They represent a naked male figure based on the artist's own body and could be considered self-portraits, were it not for the absence of the main identifying element of a portrait: the face.
Articulated in an elegant linear arrangement, the sculptures suggest, at first, the reading of a continuous movement, which reveals itself, in a closer observation, as fragmented and without an obvious cause and effect relation between each of the poses.
These are impossible and abstract, suggesting both drive and introspection, but also fragmentation and fusion of bodies.
Edgard de Souza was born in São Paulo in 1962, where he still lives today.
