Porsche 917K Race Car in the Iconic Livery of Gulf Racing

            This actual car has been owned since 1973 by Mark Finburgh when he bought it direct from the Porsche Factory in Stuttgart.
It is chassis 013/034 and was raced by Pedro Rodriguez at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1970 where it finished in fourth place.
Later it was heavily involved with the filming of "Le Mans" starring Steve McQueen. During the filming, the car crashed heavily with Englishman David Piper at the wheel, and as a result David lost a leg!
After being rebuilt, it was back racing with Pedro Rodriguez in 1971 and won endurance races in it at Daytona, Monza, Spa and Austria. 
Apparently, this 917 is a lightweight with thinner bodywork panels compared to other 917s. This means that if the car needs to be pushed a short distance, don't push against the bodywork!
The car's racing career has long since finished, but it does appear regularly at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
