Une image vaut mille mots - a photo on Flickriver

            Old Delhi (Inde) - Une chaleur caniculaire s’est abattue sur Delhi. Je suis entré dans la mosquée pour me mettre à l’ombre. Il fait frais grâce à un ingénieux système d’arcades qui facilite la circulation de l’air. Je suis assis sur le sol, adossé à un pilier et je contrôle les photos prises depuis le début de la matinée. 
Je lève la tête et j’aperçois ce jeune garçon qui m’observe l’air intrigué. Je sais que la colorimétrie sera difficile à gérer, mais l’angle est sympa et je prends la photo. Je fais signe au jeune garçon de s’asseoir et lui montre son portrait. Il sourit, mais ne dit mot. Il se lève et s’en va. Trente secondes plus tard il est de retour avec une verre d’eau qu’il m’offre. Il s’assoit de nouveau et regarde les photos qui défilent sur l’écran de contrôle. Il n’a toujours pas dit un mot. Ne dit-on pas qu’une image vaut mille mots ? J’apprendrai un peu plus tard de ses camarades que lui aussi est orphelin et qu’il est muet.

A picture is worth a thousand words

Old Delhi (India) - A scorching heat has descended on Delhi. I entered the mosque to find some shade. It is cool thanks to an ingenious system of arches that facilitates air circulation. I am sitting on the ground, leaning against a pillar and I check the photos taken since the beginning of the morning.
I raise my head and see this young boy looking at me, looking intrigued. If I know that the colorimetry will be difficult to manage, but the angle is nice and I take the photo. I signal the young boy to sit down and show him his portrait. He smiles, but does not say a word. He gets up and leaves. Thirty seconds later he is back with a glass of water which he offers me. He sits down again and looks at the photos scrolling on the control screen. He still has not said a word. Isn't it said that a picture is worth a thousand words? I will learn a little later from his comrades that he is also an orphan and that he is mute.
