Huge prairie dog town - a photo on Flickriver

            In South Dakota's Badlands National Park. Of course this town is tiny compared to the prairie dog towns the European settlers encountered in their march to colonize the west. Some covered several square miles. The largest recorded was over 25,000 square miles! Only small pockets of the original prairie survived the plow, including this national park.
