"Balancing Act at Sea II” - a photo on Flickriver

            I previously shared an image of this very cormorant on the same post, but here’s another take. The benefit of the bird holding still, at least for the most part. While drying its wings was that I had time to play with a few different compositions.

This frame is a tighter crop than the one I shared earlier more focused on the single post. That first shot was already quite minimalist, but this one strips it down even further: just the cormorant and the post. With the telephoto stretched to its full reach, the sky details fell away, and the soft colour opposite the sunrise was already, but faded.

I did consider getting lower to the ground to bring the horizon line of sky and water closer to the post, but even the smallest waves rolling ashore would have disrupted the shot.
