Pier Kloeffe

            Pier Kloeffe, born Petrus Decreton, (1853 - 1939) was a fisherman from De Panne who went on an Iceland voyage nine times with a 'galette' (topsail schooner). He owed his nickname to the inn De Kloeffe, run by his ancestors on the road to Veurne.
During his journeys at sea he was accompanied by his friend and painter Louis Van den Eynde, who made a 30 cm high statue of him. The municipal council of De Panne had this enlarged and it can be seen in the dunes.

Pier Kloeffe, né Petrus Decreton, (1853 - 1939) était un pêcheur originaire de La Panne qui fit neuf fois un voyage en Islande avec une goélette à hunier. Il doit son surnom à l'auberge De Kloeffe, tenue par ses ancêtres sur la route de Furnes.
Lors de ses voyages en mer, il était accompagné de son ami et peintre Louis Van den Eynde, qui lui fit une statue de 30 cm de haut. Le conseil municipal de La Panne l'a fait agrandir et on peut la voir dans les dunes.
