Café "In De Twee Ankers" - a photo on Flickriver

            Voormalig schipperscafé. Boven de ingang zien we in een flinke gevelsteen met de initialen A.H.M. en A.C.S., het jaartal 1803 en twee gekruiste ankers. De hoofdletters staan voor Andries HaverMans en Anna Christina Scheepers. Omwille van de eenvormigheid eigende Andries zich een tweede letter uit zijn achternaam toe. Zij huwden in 1773. Het was deze Andries die de gevelsteen met het jaartal 1803 aanbracht. 1803 is dus niet het bouwjaar van dit pand zoals rijksmonumenten vermeldt, want de vader van Andries kocht dit pand al in 1747.

Former skippers' café. Above the entrance, we see a large plaque with the initials A.H.M. and A.C.S., the year 1803 and two crossed anchors. The capital letters stand for Andries HaverMans and Anna Christina Scheepers. For the sake of uniformity, Andries adopted a second letter from his surname. They married in 1773. It was this Andries who affixed the plaque with the year 1803. 1803 is therefore not the year of construction of this building, as stated by the National Monuments Service. Andries' father had already purchased this building in 1747.
