Baden Baden, St. Bernhard - Kuppel - a photo on Flickriver

            Der Bau erfolgte bereits in den Jahren 1911 - 14.  Vorgesehen war ursprünglich eine neoromanische Ausstattung; später wurde im Jugendstil geplant. Aber im ersten Weltkrieg geriet der Kirchenbau ins Stocken und nach dem Krieg wurde dann expressionistisch ausgestattet.  
Die Malereien in der Zentralraumkuppel zeigen das apokalyptische Lamm Gottes, das von Engeln verehrt wird. Die 24 Ältesten der Offenbarung huldigen dem Lamm. Darunter sind Engel dargestellt. Der strenge, hierarchische Aufbau der Ausmalung verstärkt die Monumentalität des Raumes.
 Otto Rünzi und Karl Leon waren für die Ausmalungen
zuständig.  Sie haben sich dabei an der Beuroner Schule orientiert.
Zum Bild: Diese Kuppel wurde von mir auch schon im letzten Herbst geknipst. Aber die Sonnenstrahlen die über die westlichen Kupperlfenster ihren Weg fanden waren so kräftig, daß diese die Aufnahme beeinträchtigte. Da nun im Winter dieses Problem nicht vorhanden ist, erfolgte nun hier die Neuaufnahme. 

The church was built in the years 1911 - 14. Originally, a neo-Romanesque interior was planned; later, it was designed in Art Nouveau style. But during the First World War, the construction of the church came to a standstill, and after the war, it was furnished in the Expressionist style.  
The paintings in the central dome show the apocalyptic Lamb of God being worshipped by angels. The 24 elders of Revelation pay homage to the Lamb. Angels are depicted below. The strict, hierarchical structure of the painting reinforces the monumentality of the room.

About the picture: I also took a picture of this dome last autumn. But the sun's rays which found their way through the western dome windows were so strong that they interfered with the picture. Since this problem does not exist in winter, the new picture was taken here.
