Schwanzmeise / Long-Tailed Tit - a photo on Flickriver

            Die Schwanzmeise gehört zu den Vögeln, von denen ich gar nicht wußte, dass es sie gibt, bevor ich mit der Vogelfotografie anfing. Seit ich auf sie aufmerksam wurde habe ich sie auch nur vier- oder fünfmal gesehen und zunächst jedesmal verpasst. Entweder ich hatte meine Kamera nicht dabei oder sie waren so wuselig im Geäst von Sträuchern unterwegs, dass ich kein Foto machen konnte. Die anfänglichen Fehlversuche waren aber nicht umsonst. Ich wusste dadurch, dass sie immer als Trupp von ca. 10 Vögeln auftreten und sich gemeinschaftlich auf einer Linie entlangbewegen. Wenn man merkt, dass sie auf einen zukommen kann man sich also einfach positionieren und abwarten. Sie kommen dann ziemlich dicht heran, grasen dünne Ästchen nach Insekten ab und ziehen laut zwitschernd in ihre Richtung weiter. Ihren langen Schwanz nutzen sie die ganze Zeit sehr geschickt zum balancieren. 
Tech. Info. Eigentlich war das Licht schon zu harsch. Der Kontrastumfang in der RAW Datei aus dem Sensor (bei 1250 ISO hat die 7DII noch ca. 7 Blendenstufen) reichte zwar aus damit die hellen Stellen nicht ausgefressen sind aber in der Bildbearbeitung konnte ich mit den Reglern für Licht und Schatten das Verhältnis zwischen den beiden nicht so einstellen, dass ich es als angenehm empfand. Deshalb habe ich damit experimentiert zwei Belichtungen herzustellen, eine für die hellen Bildteile und eine für die dunklen. Das gab mir weitere 3 Blendenstufen.  Aus diesen beiden Bildern habe ich dann ein HDR gebaut, das nun für das Auge einen Helligkeitsumfang von 9 Blendenstufen hat. Soviel hat die 7DII normalerweise bei ISO 100. :-)

The long-tailed tit is one of those birds that I didn't even know existed before I started bird photography. Since I became aware of her, I have only seen her four or five times and initially missed her every time. Either I didn't have my camera with me or they were so busy in the branches of bushes that it wasn't possible for me to take a photo. But the initial failed attempts were not useless. I now knew that they always appear as a group of around 10 birds and move together in a line. If you notice that they are coming towards you, you can just position yourself and wait. They then come quite close, browse thin twigs for insects and move on in their direction, chirping loudly. They use their long tail very cleverly to balance.
Tech. Info. Actually the light was too harsh. The contrast range in the RAW file from the sensor (at 1250 ISO the 7DII still has approx. 7 f-stops) was sufficient so that the bright areas were not eaten out. However, when editing the image I was'nt able to adjust the ratio between the bright and dark areas in a way that I found usable. That's why I experimented with creating two exposures, one for the bright parts of the image and one for the dark ones. Each of those was unusable in itself but this got me another 3 stops. I then assembled an HDR from these two images, which now has a brightness range of 9 stops. This is the range the 7DII has at ISO 100. :-)
