Fasan (♂) / Pheasant (♂) - a photo on Flickriver

In den Hecken rund um meinen Wohnort schaffen es die Fasanen irgendwie zu überleben. Das ist keine Selbstverständlichkeit weil die vielen freilaufenden Katzen besonders für Bodenbrüter eine Vollkatastrophe sind. Der Fasan auf dem Foto ist mit ein paar Hennen unterwegs und ich drücke ihnen die Daumen, dass sie sich erfolgreich vermehren können. Die Welt wäre um so viel ärmer, wenn sie ausgerottet werden.
Tech. Detail: wer in meinem Fotostream mitliest weiß, dass ich direktes Licht inzwischen nach Möglichkeit vermeide. Bei Vögeln mit metallisch schimmernden Federn mache ich aber Ausnahmen weil man die sich bei direktem Licht ergebende Farbexplosion einfach gesehen haben muß. Und das ist nur der für uns Menschen sichtbare Bereich des Lichts, Vögel sehen oft zusätzlich noch Farben im UV Bereich. Muß das ein Anblick sein!
Komp. Detail: Für ein Bild nur vom Kopf hat es nicht gereicht aber für eine bessere Auflösung der Details bin ich mit dem Ausschnitt etwas dichter an den Fasan herangegangen und habe bewußt die Schwanzfedern abgeschnitten. The pheasants somehow manage to survive in the hedgerows around where I live. This is not granted for sure because the many free-roaming cats are a total disaster, especially for ground nesting birds. The pheasant in the photo is accompanied by a few hens and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can breed successfully. The world would be so much poorer if they were wiped out.
Tech. Detail: anyone who reads my photostream will know that I now almost always avoid direct light. However, I do make exceptions for birds with metallic shimmering feathers because you simply have to see the explosion of colour that results from direct light. And this is only the range of light visible to us humans, birds often additionally see colours in the UV range. What a sight that must be!
Comp. detail: I could not get close enough for a head shot but for a better resolution of the details, I have approached close to the pheasant and deliberately cut off the tail feathers. If you would like to see a ‘complete’ pheasant, you will find several photos in my Pheasant Album
