Tram Road, Upper Cwmbran 8 November 2018

            Looking down Tram Road up to the mountain. Middle left, the start of ten 19th Century miners’ cottages, originally called Stable Row after the stables where the new houses are on the left, for the dram ponies.

This was the tram road fetching bricks and coal from the Porthmawr and Mineslope Adits of Cwmbran Colliery, and the brick works. From the adits to the Siloam Chapel, the tramway was gravity operated; from the Siloam to the Woodlands, a level stretch, drams were horse drawn.
