BTR-60pb Model, Berlin 1980s

            A die cast model of a Soviet manufactured BTR-60pb produced in the 1980s by MAB (VEB Kombinat Metallaufbereitung - People's Own Business Metal Works Combine, Halle) in 1:87 scale. A well made scale model of this Soviet APC first appearing in the 1960s. Transfers included in the box gave the option of Soviet, GDR or Czechoslovakian insignia. The pb variant was the latest version before the introduction of the BTR-70. "PB" stands for plavuchi, bashnya (amphibious, turret). The turret was fitted with a 14.5mm heavy machine gun with a coaxial 7.62mm machine gun.

These models of a range of standard Warsaw Pact AFVs were very popular with unit int sections in Berlin, for training purposes. They were readily available in East Berlin, this model cost 4.70 East Marks; at the time, the DM/EM rate of exchange was never lower than 8.50 EM for 1 DM, so a bargain!
