Garton & King Ltd Drain Cover, Clarence Street, Penzance, Cornwall 24 April 2025

            A Garton & King Ltd drain cover cast in Truro by the old sluice gate location for controlling water flow into an 18th Century, long disappeared reservoir. To the left is a substantial cast iron outlet pipe possibly connected with the old sluice.

The Exeter foundry which became Garton & King was started in 1661 and continues today. Amongst other things, they have been specialists in Aga cookers for the last eighty years. It has been known as Garton & King since 1865.

They once maintained an office in Truro, with an Aga fitter based there, but no foundry.
