PUDC Access Cover, The Avenue, Sebastopol, Pontypool 12 July 2025

            An access cover marked up for PUDC - Pontypool Urban District Council.

Rural and Urban District Councils were established under the Local Government Act of 1894. They replaced the earlier urban and rural sanitary districts and were given wider areas of responsibility such as parks and cemeteries. In 1929 some were abolished and merged with other rural and urban district councils. All UDCs and RDCs were abolished in 1974, replaced by larger district councils.

It is possible that the inner broken circle was once marked up for the Llantwit Vardre (Fardre) Foundry but the detail has worn away. See comment below.
