Monmouthshire-Brecon Canal, Ty Coch Lane, Cwmbran 23 August 2025

            The canal along Ty Coch Lane is totally devoid of water. The levels are low below ~Five Locks at Pontnewydd, and it is worse below Two Locks Road. The canal below Five Locks is unnavigable and unmanaged; The navigable canal was suffering from water shortage after Welsh Water stopped supplying water from the River Usk. A stopgap deal was signed whereby the Canal Trust is paying for Usk water at commercial rates for this year, but this is economically unsustainable for them. The Welsh Government has been asked to help with water supply; if solution is not achieved, the entire canal will dry up like this stretch, ending navigation.
