An Odd Couple on Valentine's Day - a photo on Flickriver

            Finally sporting some new glass for the first time in ages, I decided to follow L072 North toward Mattawamkeag and try out some ideas I've had rolling around in my head. 

I affectionately refer to this crossing as crackhead alley, but during the daytime it's a little less terrifying down here. Downtown Bangor offers some of the only urban rail photography on the MEC this far North, although it continues to slowly fade away. The Salibas Carpets building has been stripped of its lettering, there's fences everywhere, and trees are slowly ruining the reverse angle on the opposite side of this road. Taken from the Rt. 15 overpass, this full 10mm wide angle shows us a weird pair of units on the head of the Keag turn. 

At the head is a brand new rebuild fresh from Wabtec in Erie, PA. By the grace of God, the ET23's kept their original cabs when they were sent in to be gutted for a GE inline-six. I had mixed feelings about these but in person they're just fine. A buddy of mine actually had a hefty hand in the finishing touches on this specific unit and this was my first time chasing one around to boot. Let me tell you, these things are loud man, the lack of any muffling is very obvious at speed. It snarled like hell, the horn certainly makes a noise, and I'm finally used to the fat ass it has. Paired behind it is a C40-8 that CSX tried to dump damn near a decade ago and are now forced to use daily once again, even though it has every right to be dead by now.

I call this duo the "Anthony Kiedis" setup. One is super young, shiny, and eye catching. The other is a washed up star of old, and will soon fade into the nether.
