Still Going Downhill - a photo on Flickriver

            In June when it was announced that Ffos-y-Fran mine was given a 28-day closure notice I came to this location and got a 'noisy' picture in very damp and dark conditions, the lighting was too much for my then camera. (See 'Going Downhill' in my Flickr stream.) Almost four months on and it would appear that the mine will definitely cease production on 30 November 2023, but it is possible that any mined coal not already moved out may be taken out by rail, the clock is ticking though.

The 5th October 2023 provided decent lighting conditions for another attempt at this shot, one that my previous camera would have coped well in capturing. A slightly different composition this time sees 66183 working 6C83, the 11.30 Cwmbargoed Washery to Margam passing the site of Taff Merthyr colliery.
