Z Trains on The Cutoff - a photo on Flickriver

            Two hot 'Z' trains meet on the Crookton Cutoff, just west of Double A, AZ.  I had been waiting up above this curve for about 40 minutes, hoping for a westbound train to grace the scene and receive nose lighting.  Instead I was treated to a pair of slow moving eastbounds, laboring up the grade.  I could hear the EB 'Z' above for several minutes before it's power rounded the distant curve and fill at Double A.  The power was heavily backlit, but I decided to shoot the trains approach regardless.  I was culling the worst shots from that series from my camera when a new sound became audible over the flange and wheel sounds of the passing train.  This WB 'Z' had snuck up on me!

The image above is one of several meets that I photographed on that trip to the Seligman Subdivision.  Despite the impression that may give, train counts per 24 hours were down noticeably from my visit the prior year.
