            Southbound 1982 timetable for the Highland Main Line. Again based on regular interval departures, with a common XX:30 slot every even hour from Inverness south, offering connections off both Far North and Aberdeen line trains. Again the number of trains outside the summer peak is limited to just 4 day trains, the 1020 and 1430 to Glasgow being summer only leaving just one Glasgow, the two Edinburgh and Euston service during the day for the remainder of the year. The morning Edinburgh and midday Glasgow offer consistent timings to Perth, the Clansman joins them but only as far as Aviemore, the base arrival time at Perth of XX:12 offering connections into local services.

Again it was possible to reach London quicker via Edinburgh and changing, by catching the 0830 to Edinburgh, changing onto the 1300 HST to King's Cross it you could arrive at 1749. Waiting for the Clansman two hours later would only see a London arrival at 2057, a 68 minute longer journey but with I suppose the advantage of enabling a more relaxed breakfast!

If there's any interest I may upload the equivalent Sunday timetables to show how much poorer again still those were!
