Resting before the busy night ahead - a photo on Flickriver

            A large male koala amongst the gum leaves. It is late afternoon and he has just started to stir after quite a few hours asleep. It is mating season right now and he will be looking for a lady friend very soon. We stayed for a while after the sum had lowered behind the hill and he began to move further up the tree. Then he lifted hid head and started to grunt. This was followed by soft guttural and then  bellowing sounds. I am sure the females in the forest were listening to this with alarm. Male koalas can be rather rough and are often a threat to youngsters at this time of year.
