Milwaukee rules cards 1968 &1981

            to say that I was a dispatcher on the Burlington Northern Railroad for thirty years and that I worked on the dispatcher and operator's extra board for many years before I held a regular job in "the office of the Chief Train Dispatcher" at Northtown in Minneapolis Minnesota is common knowledge for the most part 

and to say that I worked 2nd and 3rd trick as a leverman operator on the Milwaukee Road at Hoffman Avenue in St Paul Minnesota is also pretty much accepted as a fact but to say that I also did this while I went to the University of Minnesota during the day is NOT something that I say much about one way or another as I also do NOT say much about being a submarine sailor in the US Navy or that I lived for a time "in the Scottish Highlands" some 50 miles west of Glasgow   

but few people know or realize that I was also qualified as a train dispatcher on the Milwaukee Road so that I could protect rest days and provide vacation relief on "the joint double track" at Newport which I was all to glad to do. Now the fun part was that in a two year cycle I would take the BN rules exam one year and the Milwaukee rules exam the next year and they were NOT the same because as I have often said "different people in different places often say or do the same things differently" now this I know because some of the Amtrak engine crews at St Cloud often took me with them to Minot North Dakota and Milwaukee Wisconsin because they felt that I was behind on "my engineer's qualifications" and that was how it was "in those days"

And so this was how things were before "the winds of change" began to blow in 1995 when the Glory of it all disappeared and was then gone forever when these things then became an almost now forgotten part of Yesterday
