Day Transit

            101 Oil Studies, No. 7

Objective: Try out a daylight gibbous moon with the crane transit. 

Painted in 3 working sessions from 9 to 15 Jan 2024
Pigments (Winsor & Newton Artists' oil colour): indigo, french ultramarine, titanium white, ivory black, burnt umber, terra rosa, quinacridone red, cadmium orange (tiny amount for desaturation).
Centurion OP DLX oil primed linen, 22.9 x 30.5 (9 x 12 inches)

After Action Evaluation: (1) Work on methodology toward more precise lunar geography. (2) Be sure to maintain the warm/cool contrast between moon/sky and bird. (3) Try red glaze on transluscent areas of the wings. (4) I like where my crane/moon theme is going. In near future, try another study to work on sky color currently (too electric and uneven) and composition (possibly with a swipe of treetop).
