Cranes in Flight Mini - a photo on Flickriver

            101 Oil Studies, No. 12

Objective: Trials for sky and cranes.

Painted in 3 sessions, two on 1 Feb, one on 14 Feb 2024.
Pigments (all Winsor & Newton Artists' oil colour): Cerulean blue, titanium white, ivory black, terra rosa, cadmium yellow. Mediums: Gamsol, Oleogel.
Ampersand Gessobord, 12.7 x 12.7 cm (5 x 5 inches)

After Action Evaluation: (1) In these gestural trials, I've painted the center crane as though we are looking steeply up at it. The rest we see as though we are looking outward, almost horizontally. I'm reminded that a serious composition needs a consistent point of view, so adjustments usually have to be made when consulting multiple reference photos. (2) Quick, gestural strokes worked well for the three distant cranes, and it paid off to make each one different.
