The Vennel and Edinburgh Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            The word "Vennel" is a Scots word meaning "steep lane". The Vennel is known for its iconic view of Edinburgh Castle. The buildings lining The Vennel provide a "makeshift frame" from which the rock seat, on which Edinburgh Castle stands, arises.
