Saline di Cervia (RA): "Casello Ravenna", Corpo di Guardia ai confini della salina. "Guard Post" of the Cervia Salt Pans (Ravenna, Italy)

            I Caselli erano postazioni di sorveglianza collocate sulle principali vie di accesso alle saline.  I guardiani del prezioso oro bianco controllavano i salinari all’uscita dalle saline per evitare furti e contrabbando del sale. In origine i caselli erano 13, oggi ne restano solo 5. Non sono visitabili.
Sul "Casello Ravenna" che si trova in via Salara in caso di maltempo veniva issata la bandiera tricolore che invitava i salinari alla raccolta immediata del sale per evitare il rischio della perdita della produzione del giorno. Si trattava del cosiddetto "ordine del Barcone", dal nome dell’area dei bacini salanti, che coinvolgeva d’urgenza tutta la città.

These were surveillance posts positioned on the main access ways to the salt pans. The guardians of the precious white gold controlled the salt workers as they exited the salt pans to prevent theft and salt smuggling. Originally, there were 13, today only 5 remain. They are not open to visitors.

On the Casello Ravenna on Via Salara, the three-colour flag was raised in case of bad weather. It invited the salt workers to gather the salt immediately to avoid the risk of losing the day’s production. It was the so-called Barcone order, which came from the name of the area of the salt pans, which urgently involved the entire town.
