Ancient Wood Temple - a photo on Flickriver

Todai-ji Temple

From japanandmore.com/experiences/japan-temples/ "Todai-ji in Nara, Japan, was built in 752 and is the largest wooden structure in the world. Inside is the largest Buddha statue in Japan, measuring 15 meters tall and consisting of 437 tons of bronze and 130 kg of gold."

Three interesting facts:
1. This building is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
2. According to Wikipedia, after the Notre Dame Cathedral fire in Paris in 2019, a collection box to donate funds to the restoration of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was set up for temple visitors to make a contribution for the Cathedral.
3. Also, interesting to note is the direction of the umbrella walkers. The left side is walking TOWARDS the temple, the right side is walking AWAY from the temple. Of course, in Japan, driving is on the left side of the road.
