Miss SL Bahamas’s fashion sense comes directly from the eclectic, Josephine Baker.

She was an actress, dancer, singer, activist, and French Resistance spy. She was known for being half-naked wearing a banana dress, making faces, and dancing fast swaying her hips. She called it clowning around, some today call it twerking. She was a cross between Beyonce and James Bond. She specialized in karate and marksmanship. She smuggled secrets written in invisible ink on the pages of her songs. Josephine also spoke alongside Martin Luther King.

In addition, she was the first black international performer and the richest black woman in the world. She even owned a castle. She adopted 12 children from every nationality she called her rainbow tribe because she believed that hate was taught and not born. She inspired a ton of today’s fashion.

If there were no Josephine, there may not have been a Beyonce.
