Blue Teays Mudbug, Cambarus loughmani

            The Blue Teays Mudbug, Cambarus loughmani is a primary burrowing crayfish endemic to several counties in the Teays River Valley of West Virginia. It is one of several conspicuously blue-colored species throughout the Appalachia. This species was previously recognized as a blue phenotype of Cambarus dubius prior to its description in 2018.  This species was named in honor of Dr. Zac Loughman, who is amongst the most prominent crayfish biologists in the United States. Dr. Loughman has described and provided conservation knowledge for numerous species, especially within West Virginia.
