Machair Youngster - a photo on Flickriver

Machair Youngster

            Along the coast of the outer Hebrides lies a strip of wildflower grasslands called the Machair.  It is not only habitat of a lot of flowering plants that live on this low-nutrition soil, but also a lot of insects and birds that feed on these.  Among them, I found a number of Wheatear families with their young, one of them seen here taking a break from chasing its mom for food.
