Finishing pavement construction - a photo on Flickriver

At Yutate-zaka.
This slope has a history as a path of worship to a shrine on the other side of the valley at the end of it.
The shrine is said to have been built in 473 AD. Since a river flowed through the valley and it was impossible to cross, a ritual was performed on this slope where a priestess would boil water, make bubbles, dip them in bamboo leaves, and pour the bubbles over the worshippers. This ritual is called "Yutate". Sixteen centuries later, people continue to maintain this slope.
