Resting on the way to wintering grounds - Eurasian Dotterel

            Eudromias morinellus ( French : Guignard d'Eurasie) - Plaine de la Crau, Bouches-du-Rhône, France.

This bird, representative of one of the rarest species of waders in Europe, was part of a group of several individuals that had just landed in the Plaine de la Crau, a vast expanse of dry steppes in south-eastern France, bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. They were probably stopping off on their long journey from northern Europe to northern Africa (they still have to cross the water expanse), which is why they seemed very docile to me, more concerned with feeding than fleeing from observers, and in urgent need of rest, as can be seen in the photo, taken around mid day.
It was a great opportunity for me to observe this species, fascinating  from every angle, which I will tell you more about in a future post.
