River Mersey Community Fire & Rescue Station (Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service)

            There can't be many floating fire stations in the world but here's one of them.

The Pier Head in Liverpool has always been famous for its ferry service and the landing stage for the Mersey Ferry is also home to MFRS's Marine Rescue Unit. 

Apart from the usual river traffic the River Mersey also boasts the second fastest tidal flow in the UK which means that river conditions can quickly become dangerous.

As such, the station is permanently manned, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to provide cover in the case of an emergency.

Moored up outside and waiting to go into action is one of the Marine Unit RIBs, in this case 'Marine Fire One', a former RNLI offshore lifeboat.
