One of the exhibits at the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Hampshire.
 
This is one of the more well-known vintage fire engines in preservation but, susprisingly, there isn't an awful lot of detailed information out there about its history which is why most pictures of it contain pretty much the same description. So, here goes......

It started life as a seven seater touring car, owned by Westminster Bridge Garage and operated chauffeur-driver charter trips between London and Paris.

After only three years it was sold in 1910 and converted into a fire engine to be used on a country estate, although there is no information as to which one.

It was fitted with a Merryweather Valiant steam pump from the back of a horse-drawn fire engine but the sheer weight of the equipment on the chassis meant that the original wheels and pneumatic tyres had to be replaced with those of a lorry, together with a set of solid tyres.

Although it has a steam-driven pump on the back it does not have any water tanks onboard so has to be fed with water from lakes, ponds and rivers etc.

It did go on have a brief television career, featuring in the 1964/65 comedy series 'Fire Crackers' and was also featured on the poster for the 1962 British film 'Go to Blazes' although it never actually featured in the film itself.

A long-time resident at Beaulieu the vehicle is regularly mainained and, despite being well over 100 years old is still fully operational, occasionally being demonstrated at vintage rallies.
