'The Godfather of British Blues' John Mayall Passes at His Home in California (RIP), Bishopstock Blues Festival, Clyst St. Mary, Devon 1998

            I recently heard the sad news that 'The Godfather of British Blues', John Mayall, has just passed at his home in California. I was lucky enough to catch this great musician live in concert back in 1998.

John Mayall OBE (29 November 1933 - 22 July 2024) was an English blues and rock musician, songwriter and producer. In the 1960s, he formed John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, a band that has counted among its members some of the most famous blues and blues rock musicians. Some of those musicians include Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Mick Taylor, Mick Fleetwood, Harvey Mandel, John McVie; the list goes on.

A singer, guitarist, harmonica player, and keyboardist, he has a career that spans nearly seven decades. At ninety years old, Mayall is one of the oldest active musicians. Mayall was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the musical excellence category in 2024.
