Before flying shiny Airbuses and Boeings, the Vietnamese flag carrier had an all-Soviet built fleet, comprising largely of AN-24s, YAK-40s and Tu.134s.

One of the latter, registered VN-A112, was captured idle at Tân Sơn Nhất, awaiting its next service. It was delivered to predecessor Hàng không Việt Nam in 1979, which became Vietnam Airlines in 1993.

VN-A112 was last reported at Hanoi-Nội Bài airport in late 2002, but was gone by early 2004, presumably scrapped.
