This 1965-model Sabre 40 flew with several US owners before joining the Swedish Air Force in August 1980. It was based at Linköping-Malmen Air Base and operated by the FC, the Försökscentralen - the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration's test and evaluation center - as a flying laboratory for avionics, radar and electronic warfare systems.

Designated as a Tp-86 (Tp for transport), serialled 86001 and coded 861, it was captured basking in the sun upon a rare visit to Norrköping, showing its striking all-blue livery. 

86001 was one of two of the type operated, and served with the Flygvapnet for over 40 years before it was finally retired and stored in late 2023. 86001's duties are now performed by a Learjet 60.
