Bombus pascuorum

            Today I'm sharing a photo I took the other day of a common carder bee, one of the most common species in this area. I came across it while walking, resting peacefully on some mallow leaves. I was surprised by how calm it was. It was certainly early in the morning, but I usually see them fluttering among the flowers, energetically feeding on the nectar.

What impresses me most about this species is the length of their tongue, which they only stick out when they're feeding. It's truly fascinating to see how they unfurl it to reach the deepest nectar.

Nervous that it might fly away at any moment, I seized the opportunity and created this stack. And this was the final result.
