temple of Serapis Helios, Miletus - a photo on Flickriver

            Only the pediment of the temple of Serapis Helios can be seen in Miletus (Milet in modern day Turkey).  In the centre of the pediment is a carving of the sun which symbolises the god Serapis (an Egyptian deity).

In the distance at the back of the photo can just be seen the vegetation-covered dome of the 15th century Ilyas Bey mosque, which is topped with a stork's nest.
