Bad Day For Mr. Caterpillar - a photo on Flickriver

This was shot at 1:1, true macro, and it was cropped some as well, so it is actually closer to 2:1 here. It is comprised of 17 images combined in Helicon Focus to give this depth of field, otherwise impossible at this level of magnification. I did not notice the little bug (aphid?) on his head until I was processing the image. Looks like he is looking to see what is going on.

This caterpillar is a host, unwilling for sure, to wasps, who are able to lay eggs on the caterpillar. The larva are then able to use it as a source of food when they hatch. Small article on this FYI:
