Harlan KY First Street - a photo on Flickriver

            There is just so much to see in this photo.  I'll begin with the neon signs on the left side of the street.  They are: Studebaker; Ackleys Lunch; Zenith Radio; Court Cafe Steaks; Billiards; and at the corner of East Central Street - Drugs.  On the right side of the street the neon continues with Bissell's Office Equipment Supplies and Fuller Furniture.

Porcelain signs are also shown on the left.  AAA Bluegrass Automobile Club, Coca ~ Cola signs are on display for Ackley's Cafe and Midway Billiards.

There are several vehicles of note.  On the left is a mid to late 1940's Chevrolet Sedan Delivery.  It is lettered for Standard Fresh Coffee and on the door "Rain or Shine I'm on Time".  A 1948 International truck is by the Studebaker dealer and what I believe is a Buick is coming down the street.

Parked next to City Hall is a City of Harlan Police Car.

The movie poster on the Studebaker dealership is for a film staring Jack Carson.  The picture is most likely "April Showers" which was released on March 27, 1948.
