One of my more interesting rescues, the PCS 1/4 SFV Season Pass Chun Li as Morrigan statue, which checks off quite a few boxes for me.
Turns out that in SFV, cosplaying characters was kind of a thing, and one of the costumes had Chun Li dressing up as Morrigan for battle. This Polyresin statue seems to be based off the 1/4 scale Swimsuit Chun Li. There's also a wedding dress version, but overall there is no Classic costume, which was made as a 1/6 scale statue featuring Chun Li using a V Trigger move.
The base appears to be the one used for the swimsuit statue, but with Red blood rather than Blue water.
Anyway, this statue was one of those relatively limited version, though it wasn't the Exclusive Edition with the extra art piece.
This statue has been damaged in many, many, MANY spots, and they're not exactly subtle either. But, the humanitarian in me said despite all her obvious flaws, the $300 CAD asking price was acceptable to me, and an adoption was completed.
I mention the obvious damage because, well, I mean it's there and there was no way I was expecting this to be pristine. No big deal. Having said that, this is my second PCS piece, and despite the MSRP, there's plenty to be annoyed about I have an even greater appreciation for Japanese made statues for their overall quality. You'd think being Street Fighter that they'd put their best foot forward - nope, doesn't seem it.
I should start with that the overall pose is quite nice and the general musculature of the body isn't bad. The legs are a bit lean for Chun Li, in particular the thighs, but this was evident even on the swimsuit statue. Torso and bust line are nice, and while I wish the arms had a bit more muscle (along with the back) it's not terrible. Sculpting of the glutes and pelvic area are very sharp looking. General production values on the torso and legs are beautiful, with the exception of some slight masking issues on the chest.
The face, on the other hands, is a bit rough. The face appears to use the same moulds as the swimsuit statue. The hair isn't bad and is appropriate for scale and looks like Morrigan. You can notice that like with the Sideshow Black Widow I got last year, the paint work on her face is a bit messy. The teeth are just god awful and for whatever reason, it looks like my Chun Li is a life long smoker.
Moving along, the bat wings on the head, specifically the black surface. No idea what happened there, but I'm pretty sure that the rough finish wasn't caused by any repair work - it just looks incredibly crude. I suspect they wre going for a leathery texture like on the Bishoujo statues, but utterly failed miserably.
The moulding/sanding of the ears isn't particularly good, nor are sections of the hair and some parts on the body (though those are far fewer and harder to see). Fingers though, are pretty easy to make out. The feathered straps on shoulders are a bit crude looking as well.
There are some random splotches, specifically on the left waist and the left wing that may be just the previous owner being careless with the glue.
I will commending PCS for at least getting the flesh tones consistent across the body. Too many times have I see that being an issue and it really ruins the look of the piece. Other than the aforementioned problem areas, the general paint work is what I would expect from a production of this calibre.
Build Quality... well this is a Polyresin statue. It's heavy, and it's fragile. Buyers should be very much aware of this, so that's why it's important that things are packaged well. From what I can see, things should have shipped perfectly, so all this damage was owner error.
One day I'll make the space and display this along side my other larger scale pieces.
